“I’ll Go With You”
OH MY GOD, this is the scene that finally made me crack…
I mean honestly, she is basically telling him she loves him…just look at her, the way she says it so sweetly, just absolutely, like she would go through anything and everything with him…and then she hugs him…and the way she moves her hand across his back while crying, not wanting to let go. This boy, this man has been her best friend since she was little, since he saved her, and now she feels like she should do the same, she would do anything for him, walk to death with him. And just the way that Harry looks at Ron, it was everything us Harmionans ever wanted, that look of ‘take care of her for me’ and then he just silently lets her go and walks away, it was all just too much

^THIS COMMENT! This is what the R/Hr shippers don’t realize. Harry is not a cockblock, HARRY GAVE HERMIONE TO RON. He had to. There is a singularity in Harry’s mission, even JKR has stated that. He is the hero, he has to be alone. And Ginny is willing to let him be alone—she was willing to let him go when he asked. But Hermione is different, if he had made her “his,” she wouldn’t have let go without a fight. Harry is extremely self-sacrificing. Yes, Harry could’ve had Hermione. She was his for the taking. If he had said “come die with me” she would have gone with him. She suggested that! Because nothing and no one is more important to her than Harry. She would rather die with Harry than live with Ron. But that is a situation that does not work with the often tragic mission of the hero. He cannot take anyone down with him, least of all the woman he loves.
Mmmm…hun, I have a bit of an issue with the she’s his for the taking mentality. Hermione’s narrative doesn’t serve that purpose. She would freely give her life for him because she sees him as hers to protect. She functions as Harry’s protector and the one person that never left him. It isn’t that he could have had her, it’s that she would have given herself. Harry’s the hero of this story because he was chosen and as such he stepped up. Hermione didn’t have to go through this. She didn’t have to erase herself for him and this mission but she did because in her mind her fate was sealed the night Harry remembered her and saved her from the troll and this war was also about her. Their relationship has never been about her being the girl that he could have had but didn’t because he knew that she wouldn’t be able to let go. Their relationship begins and ends with her and how she has never left him and never will leave him. It’s not that she would rather live without Ron, it’s that she can’t leave Harry. She doesn’t know how to leave him because she never has. She doesn’t know how to let him go. As much as that scene was a harmony moment, it was more parts a hermione pov on harmony moment. “I’ll go with you,” shows how their relationship goes in her head. She goes with him. She’s by his side. This is how their relationship functions. She doesn’t understand a world in which that isn’t true. So, yes, she’ll go with him because Harry is hers to protect even if that means dying because she is by his side. Those are the roles she chose, to fight in this war about her blood and to be by Harry’s side.
*claps for Sabrina* But, yes. Hermione is not an object, she is nobody’s for the taking, it is her choice, her choice that drives this. She made a choice a long time ago, and it was Harry, it’s always going to be Harry. Harry did not give Hermione to Ron. Hermione chose to stick by him but she also chose to do what he asked her to do and stay behind and look for the snake. I think it’s very significant that Harry is talking to her specifically when he asks her to kill Nagini, because I think, in his heart of hearts the one person he trusts the most is Hermione and he needs her to do this for the mission and for them. Because he cannot have her die or get harmed because of him again. He stops functioning if anything happens to her. Also, sidenote, but Hermione can take of herself better than anyone and Harry knows that.
Yes. All of this. I saw the whole “Harry gave Hermione to Ron” post last night, and it made me cringe a bit. One of the reasons I just can’t even with RHr is because so many shippers seem to buy into the whole “Ron ended up with Hermione because he deserves her the most” position. It doesn’t matter what Hermione wants or chose, but what Ron needs and what Ron deserves. The above argument just seems like the flip side of the same coin. They both turn Hermione into objects with no say in what goes on in her own life. So yeah guys, like the above two posts say, let’s move away from the “his for the taking” mentality.
